Jun Monotone (2002)

With this piece, I tried to express a sense of time from the past. I never actually lived in that era, so I don’t really know what the “real” atmosphere of that time was like — but I imagined a slow, gentle flow of time. I think the soft blue and white tones came out quite well. Personally, this is the color scheme I like the most, though I wonder how others feel about it.
I’ve always felt that sepia, monochrome, or softly faded colors give off a warm feeling. And the past itself somehow feels warm too, doesn’t it? Maybe that’s why low-saturation, gentle colors tend to evoke a sense of nostalgia — or perhaps it’s the feeling of colors having faded with time that makes us sense the presence of history.
