A Copper-Pole Table That Also Works as a Seat (2003)

I wanted to create something that could function both as a table and, if needed, as a seat — and of course, I wanted it to look stylish. The tabletop is made from a single solid plank, and just that alone would normally cost quite a bit. It originally came from a signboard used by the Liberal Democratic Party, which means it was made from fairly high-quality wood.
The poles lined up in the center are made of copper. Their material texture blends beautifully with the wood, and the overall look turned out quite nice. However, the structure was a bit unstable at first, so I later added supports at the four corners to improve rigidity.
The beautiful wood grain of the top and the ten copper poles create a strong visual accent — something I personally find very appealing. My original idea was to support the table using only the copper poles, but since it wobbled, I reinforced it with wooden corner legs so that it could withstand heavier, everyday use.
