Plywood Dish Cabinet (2006)

I decided to try making a dish cabinet — or more accurately, I had originally planned to build a draining counter, but since I was going to place it beneath the dishes, it eventually turned into a cabinet instead. The dishes placed on the shelves were handmade by an acquaintance. The total cost for this project was about 2,000 yen.

Because I couldn’t use screws in this situation, I assembled the cabinet using only woodworking glue. Some people might worry whether glue alone is strong enough, but wood glue is surprisingly strong. I also used a fan to help the stain dry more quickly.

After finishing it, I installed the cabinet right away. Doing the installation alone was quite a challenge, but once I placed the dishes inside, it felt just right. Next, I plan to work on the draining counter.
