Shelf for Using the Dead Space Above the Washing Machine (2007)

The space above a washing machine often ends up as an unused “dead space.” There’s plenty of room there, yet it’s surprisingly difficult to use for anything. Normally people might place a dryer there, but it isn’t easy to find a ready-made shelf that fits the exact size of each home. And that’s exactly the kind of situation that makes me think, “Well, if it doesn’t exist… I might as well make it myself.”
So this time, I built a shelf to make good use of that unused space and to store things that aren’t used very often. The process was simple: I measured the depth and width, had the plywood cut at the home-center store, and used narrow pine boards — similar to 2×4 material — for the legs. I added a reinforcing frame at the back and two additional support pieces at the bottom.
The result turned out much better than I expected, and I’m very satisfied with it. From now on, that “dead space” can finally be used to its full potential.
