Handmade Coaster for an Inverted-Taper Coffee Mug

I found a coffee mug I really liked, but its base was shaped like an inverted trapezoid, which made it a bit unstable on the table. Rather than forcing the mug to fit the world, I decided to shape the world to fit the mug. I carved a shallow recess into a piece of wood and added a burned finish, creating two coasters designed specifically for this shape.

Instead of “correcting” what is unstable, responding to it and supporting it can deepen the relationship between tools and daily life.
